ARTWalk Celebrates the Arts in Pasadena With Over Thirty Participating Artists
Pasadena, CA – (October 2008) – The Playhouse District Association and the Pasadena Society of Artists invite you to discover ArtWalk 2007 on Saturday, October 13th from 11am to 5pm. ArtWalk will be held primarily on El Molino Ave. between Green St. and Colorado Blvd.
Art instillations, ice sculpting, pastry design, stand-up comedy and “the coffee lady” are the nontraditional art forms to be featured in this year’s ArtWalk event, along with juried art for sell by painters, photographers and sculptors living, working or exhibiting in Pasadena.
Joining us this year as special guests are legendary Chicana artists’ Margaret Garcia and Patssi Valdez who will be on hand to sell and discuss their work.
“ArtWalk is an opportunity for the public to fully enjoy art and the creative spirit that resides in this district, which is anchored by the historic Pasadena Playhouse and Pacific Asia Museum, and includes Pasadena Museum of California Art, California School of Culinary Art, several independent bookstores, art galleries, interior design shops and 40-plus cafes and restaurants,” said Erlinda Romo, district executive director.
ArtWalk provides a beautiful outdoor setting and a myriad of free activities for the family, featuring highlights such as:
Written and Spoken Word Stage
The Vroman’s stage will showcase a beat-bopping poetry slam; an author reading by Michael Walker, theatre group performances, including a live children performance of Disney’s Aladdin, and a rock comedic performance by the Ice Houses very own Mark Eddie. A Huntington Botanical Gardens photography exhibit and reception featuring Donald Rogers will be held at the Vroman’s bookstore.
Art and Performance Installations
Three stimulating art and performance installations will be located steps away from the Visual Arts Village, Recalling Scratchy Flapper Jazz a site-specific instillation by Nicholas Fedak II will take you back to the 1920′s. A performance piece by B.S. International, titled “Welcome,” will have you walking on a human mat, and lastly “Espresso” a performance piece by Sylvana Tei Kenney will introduce you to the Italian Momma.
Hands-On Activity Village
Children and families can enjoy a variety of fun and creative hands-on activities in the hands-on activity village. The village offers interactive activities such as bookmaking, drawing with pastels, wood working workshops, and much more.
Music and More
The stage along El Molino Ave. will feature live music, and performance groups that will entertain attendees. Visit Arcade Lane to watch an ice sculpture being made and view the culinary pastry exhibit.
The Pacific Asia Museum and Pasadena Museum of California Art will offer free admission.
ArtWalk is made possible in part by Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division. ArtWalk is part of Pasadena ArtWeekend. ArtWeekend is a three-day event that includes ArtNight, ArtWalk, ArtHeritage, ArtMart, and ArtPeformance.
