A Big Band Evening for the Station

Join Union Station Homeless Services for an evening of music that makes a difference! World renowned musicians offer a wonderful night of big band music at the 11th Annual An Evening for the Station. Proceeds from the concert support Union Station Homeless Services programs, the San Gabriel Valley’s largest and most comprehensive social service agency assisting homeless adults and families.

An Evening for the Station will be held at the historic Pasadena Playhouse on Saturday, October 2 at 6:30 pm. The event will feature a raffle and wish list opportunities, hors d’oeurves and incredible music from the USC Big Band and jazz star Bob Mintzer, renowned musician and member of the Grammy winning Yellowjackets. Additional special guest performers will be announced in September.

Pacific Asia Museum invites you to come out of hibernation for a dynamic winter series that explores the diverse cultures of Asia and the Pacific Islands through food, drink, art, fashion and history!

Pasadena Playhouse Announces 2 Productions for Fall 2010 season!

Pasadena Playhouse, the State Theatre of California (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Stephen Eich, Executive Director), is pleased to announce their upcoming 2010 fall productions.  The doors will reopen with seven-time Emmy Award and five-time Golden Globe Award-winner Ed Asner (“Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Lou Grant”) starring in the solo performance drama, FDR based on Dore Schary’s Broadway hit Sunrise at Campobello.  Ed Asner as FDR, presented by Pasadena Playhouse, in association with Campobello Theatre Productions Inc. and Gero Productions LLC, runs October 12 – November 7 with the official press opening on Wednesday, October 13. 

 

Tony and Emmy Award-winner Leslie Uggams (Pasadena Playhouse’s Stormy Weather and ABC’s “Roots”) returns to the Playhouse stage in UPTOWN DOWNTOWN. Presented by Pasadena Playhouse, in association with The Kelvin-Pratt Corp., UPTOWN DOWNTOWN runs November 16 – December 12 with the official press opening on Friday, November 19.  Tickets for FDR and UPTOWN DOWNTOWN go on sale Friday, September 10.

Don’t miss 3 exciting events coming up at the Pacific Asia Museum!

1.       Saturday, September 4: Storyteller Sunny Stevenson presents back-to-school stories from Asia, exploring kids’ educational experiences in other countries, at 10:30 am in the Silk Road travelers’ tent. Admission for children under 12 is free.

 

2.       Thursday, September 9: The film Raga Unveiled: India’s Voice receives its West Coast premiere, showcasing legendary musicians, Vedic scholars, musicologist, spectacular cinematography and rare archival footage s it explores the ancient tradition that underlies the Indian melodic form known as raga. The event, from 6 – 10 pm, includes live musical performances, Indian food, and an appearance by the film’s director, Gita Desai. Tickets cost $50, reservations required.

 

3.       Sunday, September 12: “Authors on Asia” presents artists and writer Belle Yang discussing and signing Forget Sorry: An Ancestral Tale at 2 pm. Free with admission.
