When Serge drops a small fortune on a controversial painting, the sparks (and words) begin to fly as each experience the dire consequences of adhering to one's taste in art. Written by white-hot playwright Yasmina Reza (God of Carnage), this acclaimed international hit will be directed by nine-time Emmy Award-winner David Lee. David has directed many of The Playhouse's biggest hits, including Can-Can, Light Up the Sky and Camelot. |

The Treatment
February 25 – March 25
Conceived by Kronis & Alger, text by Richard Alger
Directed and choreographed by Tina Kronis
Who draws the line between sanity and insanity? In this new work of visceral, movement-based storytelling, a complacent doctor's world view is upended when he befriends a philosophizing madman in a remote and neglected metal hospital. Chekhov's investigation of people in positions of power and those they hold captive ignites with intense physicality fused with ironic humor, dance and song. |

Bobbie Oliver Show
January 22, 9:00 p.m.
Bobbie Oliver is one of Los Angeles' funniest comics, but she had to come a long way to get here. Born Barbara "Bobbie" Evans in Covington, GA, a small town outside Atlanta whose chief claim to fame was being used for location shooting for The Dukes of Hazard TV series, Bobbie grew up in a two-bedroom, one-bathroom trailer inhabited by a family of seven. The economy was depressed, and so were the people. Bobbie found escape in staying up late with her father to watch The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Carson and the comedians who performed on his show became an inspiration to her. |
John Caparulo

John believes that honesty is universal and the essence of comedy is being able to tell the world how you really feel in a funny way. Amen to that. |

| Richard Bunkall: A Portrait
January 22 – April 22
Richard Bunkall: A Portrait surveys the paintings, drawings, and sculptures of the Pasadena-based artist known for his distinctive style. The survey examines several of the periods through which the artist passed in his twenty-five year career before dying at 45 of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in 1999. Bunkall trained his rich, muted palette and painterly approach on a broad and inventive consideration of the urban environment, one that creates its own compelling reality and draws the viewer into mysterious interiors and lofty exteriors in which improbable things are seen in improbable situations. Bunkall captured a quality found at the heart of most American metropoli, the adventure and mystery, more exhilarating than alienating, of the "urban canyon." Richard Bunkall: A Portrait looks at the many ways Bunkall conveyed adventure and described mystery through his artistic vision. |
| L.A. RAW: Abject Expressionism in Los Angeles 1945-1980, From Rico Lebrun to Paul McCarthy
January 22 – May 20
The figurative artists from the 1940s and '50s who dominated the Los Angeles art scene of that time have largely been written out of today's art history. L.A. RAW: Abject Expressionism in Los Angeles 1945-1980, From Rico Lebrun to Paul McCarthy provides a much needed reference for the study of post-war American figurative art, placing the works in a historical context and examining the pivotal role played by these Los Angeles artists. Bringing together works by 40 artists in a variety of media – painting, sculpture, photography, and performance – curator Michael Duncan traces a different aesthetic through-line from the late 1940s to the present day. |
Project Room: Nancy Baker Cahill: Fascinomas
January 22 – May 20
By electron microscopy, parasitology, and prehistoric cave paintings, Nancy Baker Cahill's Fascinomas explore the uncharted territory between physical vulnerability and metaphysical indefinity, where undulating, spectral forms arouse curiosity and wonder at the same time that they impart a visceral feeling of dread. In a new interactive installation for the PMCA Project Room, Cahill delves further into the ramifications of using the human body as both site and actor by integrating visitors into a large-scale specimen sample and eerily blurring the boundaries between organisms. |
